Our Dachshunds are raised inside our home as a member of the family.  Dachshunds are a very personable breed, they NEED to be with their human.  They are affectionate and devoted which is why if/when they are no longer capable of showing and/or breeding, they are spayed/neutered and live out the rest of their lives with us.  Our weens sleep on the couch, have regular play time, treats, and even sleep in the bed with us.  They are only crated when we are not home and cannot supervise them (they can be quite naughty at times)
