Reaching Goals

​From late spring to now, we have had several Mini Lops, and a Harlie all with two legs trying to earn that third and final granding leg. It always seems like that last leg is the hardest one to obtain! I entered, and entered and hoped and prayed that someone, will get that leg. My personal goals this year is to do better than my best showing year since I came back into the rabbit hobby. That year was 2012. The year of Wyatt. In the year of 2012 for Mini Lops (as I was not breeding Harlies then) Glacier Mini Lops earned a total of 37 class wins, 11 Best of Variety wins, 7 Best Opposite of Variety & Best of Breed wins, and 5 Best Opposite of Breed wins. This totaled 29 legs earned that show year, granding 4 Mini Lops! Granted, one of those rabbits Granded was Wyatt and 10 of those legs earned were also Wyatts. I still set forth the goal this year to beat that record.


Now, just to clarify, for me and several other Montana Rabbit Folk, a show year starts at the first Montana show, usually in March or April and ends with the last Montana show sometime in October. Here at Glacier Mini Lops, we show primarily in Montana, and occasionally in Idaho. As of right now we do not attend National Breed Shows or Conventions, but hope to someday. So each year I set forth a goal to do better than the last. I keep track of points earned from Jan to Dec for each rabbit shown, legs earned, wins, etc. I still participate in end of the year sweeps with the MLRCA and submit my show reports at the end of the year (and with the goal of achieving a higher point rating than the last year) Because I do not do the National All Breed Shows, Convention, nor do we have lots of shows available to us in Montana (maybe 10 a year) competing for top rankings in sweeps is not part of my goals. Maybe when my kids are all grown, I will have the time and extra funds to invest going to these shows and compete at more of a national level. But right now, I am simply happy to compete here in Montana, and reach my own personal goals of improving and doing better each year.


Granted, wins, and points will vary year to year depending on the other animals entered, and the number of entries. With this system, Glacier Mini Lops did slightly better in 2014 than in 2013 but not as well as 2012. So therefore the goal was set to beat that year and do better. I guess it's true that in order to take that step forward that one has to take a step back, as seen in last year's results.


So onward to the point of the matter! I cannot be more thrilled to say that I have reached part of that goal! So far in 2015 Glacier Mini Lops is proud to say we have 5 new Grand Champions! GML Ride The Lightning, GML Butterfly Effect, Spangled's/GML Pandora, GML I Am Legend, and GML Whiskey A Go Go! Now what makes this even more special this year, is that all granded animals have been home bred!! (Spangled's/GML Pandora is a co bred doe sired by GML/Valadez's Lucifer). That is one more than those granded in 2012, and ALL of them being GML rabbits!


We still have two more shows to attend this year before closing out our show year and tallying up the final results! I am excited to see what they will be. Check out Mini Lop Show History, The final results will be posted in Ocotober!
